Are you familiar with teething and the effect on your child’s smile? When teeth break the surface of the gums, it can cause an uncomfortable feeling called teething. While teething is natural, treatments should be used to help your child.

When your child is teething, there are a few treatment methods you can use to help assist them with the pain. This includes using tools to numb or alleviate the pain, such as cold spoons, washcloths, gauze pads, and specially designed teething rings. If your hands are sanitized, you can also use your finger to gently rub across their gums.

One of the first signs of teething is with the teeth themselves. If you are seeing new teeth, teething may already be occurring. A few signs and symptoms of teething frequently include changes in sleeping patterns, an increase in fussiness, a general loss of appetite or desire for eating, and excessive or irregular drooling. This is normal and expected of children who are teething. However, if your child begins to develop severe rashes or fevers, or has diarrhea, you should speak with your child’s pediatrician.
